No political party other than Congress believes and practises secularism and cares for the people living in the Northeast, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in Shillong on Feb 27 

“Congress is the only national party that cares for the Northeast and diversity in
India. We are the only party that tried to bring the people of this region into the mainstream while at the same time protecting their unique history, culture and identity,” Singh told an election rally in Shillong. He said Congress provided shelter to all. “Congress is the key link in the unity of our diverse nation,” Singh said.
